The standard poodle has a dense, non-shedding curly coat. How you choose to maintain its coat is a matter of personal preference and grooming ability. Depending on the length of the coat, the poodle does require the minimum of a weekly brushing and combing. How often you bathe your Poodle depends on the lifestyle you enjoy. Poodles are originally water dogs and most love the water. I give the puppies baths to acclimate them to the water and the hairdryer. My pet poodles climb right into the tub when it is announced its time for a swim. You will require a slicker brush, wide tooth comb and pin brush to keep your poodle looking and feeling its best. A good set of clippers are required if you wish to trim your Poodle yourself.

The Super Easy All Over Trim.
An all over trim is easy to maintain...keep in mind your local climate. These trims did cause a lot of people to ask "What kind of dog is that?". When I proudly announced they were Poodles, I was met with disbelief. Yes,Poodles are real dogs! Many people have preconceived ideas that the Poodle is a frou frou type of dog. I can attest that the standard poodle is a hardy athletic dog. These no muss hair cuts are perfect for active dogs.

This photo shows a short coat, long ears, full top knot and tail. It is still easy to maintain...but leaves no doubt...yep it's a poodle.










The Grooming Choice Is Yours!
A standard poodle can be groomed in a variety of clips.

You may choose to do this yourself.

Many grooming salons offer courses to teach you the basics of grooming your dog. Pets Beautiful in London offered me invaluable advice on how to keep my show dogs' coat in top form.

Many grooming salons offer courses in how to trim and groom your own dog.

You may opt to take your dog to a certified groomer for regular upkeep.
